Hello [fname],
When we decided to write an article about how to have a successful garage sale, I became motivated to have one of my own. I never had a garage sale mainly because it was a lot easier to store it in the attic or donate it. This year I decided to take on the challenge with the help of my co-worker, Toni.
I cleaned out closets, the garage, and even the attic. This garage sale was going to be huge! In my mind, I imagined hundreds of people flocking to our house. We would be millionnaires! Ok, a bit of an exaggeration, but I thought a few hundred wasn't an unrealistic goal.
Within an hour of opening up, I quickly learned that everyone wanted to pay pennies not dollars. Selling my daughter's baby clothes and toys for a dollar or two was difficult but it wasn't so much what we were selling everything for, it was my attachment to these items that made it difficult.
By the end of the day, I had worked through my motherly issues and was pratically giving the stuff away! Not only did we make some money to put on our debt snowball but I also learned that I was holding on to the past. It was time to let go of all of this "stuff" and look forward to a debt free future!
